SAMBA, December 30: The 12th District Fencing Championship, hosted by the District Association, ended at VVM Upper Secondary School, Nonath Ghagwal, here today.
The championship was organized under the aegis of the ad hoc committee of the J&K Amateur Fencing Association in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council. Suresh Kumar, President of BDC, Ghagwal was the main guest who presented the medals to the winners. Among the guests of honor were Vijay Targotra, President of BDC, Gopal Dass Sharma, President of BDC, Rakesh Sharma, SHO Ghagwal and Shashi Sharma, Principal of VVM Upper Secondary School, Nonath.
Over 80 fencers (boys and girls) from different clubs, centers and institutions competed in the under 14, 17, 19 and senior age group. The fights were refereed by Akash Sharma, Vivek Sharma, Abishek Pangotra and Rahul Sharma.
In the under-14 foil girls, Nandani Devi and Aakshi Devi won gold and silver, while the 1st and 2nd bronze medals were won respectively by Nandini Devi and Bumika Sharma, while in Under 14 épée, gold and silver were won by Ridhima Jasrotia and Ridhima Groach and bronze medals were won by Anmol Jasrotia and Riya Sharma and in the under 14 foil boys year-old Ayush Sambyal and Aniket Khajuria won the first two medals, while bronze was won by Keshav Sharma and Sujal Singh, as well as in boys under 14 saber, top two medals were won by Bhanu Sharma and Manik Sharma, while Parun Changotra and Hanish Sharma won bronze medals.
In the boys under 19, gold and silver were won by Vivek Shoetra and Vanish Bhagat, while the 1st and 2nd bronze medals were won respectively by Akshit Sharma and Vishal Lalotra, while in the boys under 17, gold and silver were won by Akshat Verma and Sunil Singh, while the 1st and 2nd bronze were won by Sharawan Singh and Gourav Singh respectively, in addition to the saber boys under 17, the first two medals were won by Dharuv Chandel and Pancham Sharma, while the 1st and 2nd bronze were won by Surya Partap Singh and Deepak Choudhary respectively, in addition to the girls under 19 , gold and silver were won by Mehul Rajput and Anisha Verma, while the 1st and 2nd bronze medals were won by Nitika Sharma and Krishna Sharma.
In boys’ open foil, the gold and silver medals were won by Mangal Singh and Dikshant Sharma, while the 1st and 2nd bronze medals were won respectively by Manjeet Singh and Ritish Sharma.
