Ahern and Fox both place 2nd in Liberty Leagues

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY

– The pair of Senior sprinters Andre Fox and first year Sam Ahern each placed in their two individual events and totaled 28 points for the Dutch on the final day of the Liberty League Championships. The Dutch finished seventh and collected 35 points on Saturday from Vassar College and Prentiss Sports Complex.

Senior Andre Fox finished second in the men’s 400m. Fox had a career-best sprint of 49.82 400m. This time, Fox qualifies for the All Atlantic Regional Championship in Track and Field. Fox qualified for the final with his 50.64 he ran Friday afternoon, giving him the second seed for today’s race. Fox ran a 49.82 in today’s final for second place and eight points for the Dutch.

Fox also competed in the men’s 200m and finished fifth. Fox ran a 22.70 and earned four points for the Dutch.

First year Sam Ahern was edged out in the men’s 100m for second place. Ahern crossed the finish line with a time of 10.91 seconds. Ahern, who was already in the AARTFC, improved his start time for the competition. This time was also a better season for Ahern, whose previous best was an 11.08.

Ahern followed up his second place in the 100m with another second place, this one in the 200m. Ahern ran a blistering time of 22.31 and qualified for the AARTFC. This position added another eight points to the Union men’s total.

The men’s 4 x 100m relay team of Ahern, Fox, sophomores ryan hillardand Ben Tichner earned the Dutch five points on the day, with their fourth place in the relay. The group finished with a time of 43.57. This time was a better season for the relay team.

The other relay team ran in 3:30.35 in the 4 x 400m. The team of Ahern, Fox, Hilliard and junior Aiden Rowley finished in seventh place.

First year Ryan Russell qualified for the AARTFC in the men’s 5000m with his time of 15:23.12. This time from Russell was a new personal best of 16 seconds. His previous record was 15:39.51.

This meeting marks the end of the season for the majority of the Dutch. Those who have qualified for the AARTFC will have more appointments on Wednesday May 18th and Thursday May 19th.
