AIFF suspends one after India’s U-17 women’s football team alleged misconduct charges


New Delhi, June 30: A case of misconduct has been reported with the women’s U-17 football team currently on an exhibition tour in Europe, the Indian Football Federation (AIFF) said on Thursday. However, the AIFF did not reveal the names of the staff, but provisionally suspended the individual and opened a further investigation. “A case of misconduct has been reported in the U17 women’s team currently on an exhibition tour in Europe. The AIFF follows a zero tolerance policy on indiscipline. As a first action, the Federation has provisionally suspended the individual pending further investigation,” the AIFF said in a statement. “The AIFF has asked the individual concerned to cease all contact with the team, to return to India immediately and to be physically present for further investigations upon his arrival.” The staff were with the team on their tour of Italy, but were not visible in team photos when the team touched down in Norway on Wednesday. The Indian girls took part in the 6th Torneo Women’s Football Tournament in Italy from June 22-26, where they faced defeats against superior opponents like Italy and Chile. Now they are preparing for the Open Nordic Tournament WU16 in Norway from July 1 to July 7. This will be the first time that the Indian team will participate in the NORDIC tournament, according to a statement from the AIFF.
