Matthew Perchik is a junior forward for the Trevians. He has led the team in goals (10) and assists (6; co-leader) this season.
1. Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?
A little superstition that I sort of picked up on is that I put everything on first, whether it’s my socks, shin guards, shins, ankles, or crampons. If it’s an away game, I like to listen to music before getting on the bus. If it’s a home game, spend time with your teammates in the hangar; it helps relieve the nerves.
2. What do you hope to do after high school?
I still didn’t understand if I wanted to play college football, but I would definitely go to college. I want to study something related to business. This career path seems interesting to me.
3. What is your best sporting moment so far?
Probably my first college goal, against Loyola in the third or fourth game of the season. We had a big crowd, it was a rivalry game and I was able to put a goal in (the net) like a minute after the game started.
4. What is your dream job?
Honestly, I would love to be CEO. I know this is kind of a back door response. I love to be in leadership roles.
5. What is your favorite activity off the pitch?
Definitely going out with my friends. My friends are really important to me and it’s a really good way to escape stress – at school, at sports – and to hang out and relax with friends.
6. If you could play another sport, which one would it be?
Definitely golf. I love to watch golf with my dad. I play it. I’m not very good, but it would be cool to be a good golfer. I don’t think enough people respect (golf) as much as it should be.
7. If you are at Walgreens with a few dollars, what do you buy?
I’ll take an Arnold Palmer for my drink; then Chex Mix – any genre, I’m not really biased; and then a few cups of Reese’s peanut butter.
8. You have just won the lottery. What is your first purchase?
Probably like a house. I would definitely like to get some form of real estate. My parents taught me that real estate is the best investment. A vacation home somewhere like Florida or Hilton Head would be cool.
9. What don’t people know about you?
Probably I am color blind. This is my favorite answer for a fun fact. I am fortunate not to be severely color blind. Sometimes I find it hard to tell the difference between red and green.
10. Is this team well placed before the playoffs?
I think we are in a good position. We started the season with a frustrating tie and won a bunch of games from there. The defining moment of our season was the loss of Evanston. We made a few flaws from that and then had a winning streak. So the team is in a great position and playing with so much confidence at the moment. Everyone on the pitch trusts their teammates and feels really good with the team. I can’t wait to play with my teammates in the playoffs.
