Jorianne Mirabal is a promising multisport athlete for the Magdalena Steers. She is the next contender in the Mirabal family of competitors and currently plays for the varsity volleyball team in her freshman year.
Question: What is the most important thing required for a volleyball player to be successful?
Reply: I would say it’s all about the effort. Limit errors because each error can be a point. The most important thing is the effort on each possession.
Question: What’s your favorite part of volleyball?
A: It’s a team sport and my team really helps me be successful as an individual. The support we have for each other is what makes the game so fun.
Question: What is the part you like least while playing volleyball?
A: I don’t really have a least favorite part. I like to play volleyball every week.
Question: You play other sports for Magdalena. How about is your favorite?
A: It’s a connection between basketball and volleyball for me. Whatever the season, that’s what I focus on to make our team the best they can be in front of the fans.
Question: What is your favorite sport that you don’t play?
A: It’s difficult. Every sport that I love, I have the chance to play. From rodeo to competition here at school, there isn’t a sport that I feel like I’m missing out on right now.
Question: What would you say to young players who want to play college volleyball for the Steers?
A: It is a matter of effort and taking charge of each other. Prepare for the ups and downs. You have to be mentally prepared for that. Young girls will benefit from just watching our team compete. It’s a big key as they arise.
Question: If there was one person you could meet, alive or dead, who would it be?
A: Michael Jordan. No one has the mindset he had. Personally, I couldn’t watch Michael Jordan live, but I was able to watch so many videos online of him. He wanted to be the best every night.
