Cincinnati Enquirer names high school athletes of the week, September 10


In a vote that ended on September 10, readers selected the Cincinnati Enquirer Athletes of the Week, featured by Mercy Health, from high school athletic action through September 5.

The winners will receive a certificate sent by the sports department of the school. The first round will be released towards the end of September, beginning of October.

Ohio Football Team: Read – Reading improved to 3-0, surpassing Country Day high 35-7. Reading dominated its three opponents 122-13.

Northern Kentucky Soccer Team: Walton-Verona – The Bearcats hosted Grant County, outscoring them 21-6 in the second half to win 35-20.

Boys’ Fall Team: Moeller Soccer –Brock Kiper’s hat trick led Moeller to a 3-1 victory at Lakota West on August 31.

Girls’ Fall Team: Reading Women’s Soccer – Reading came back from a 3-0 loss to Deer Park and scored one with a minute left in the first half, then scored 3 unanswered points winning 4-3. Olivia Simpson led the Blue Devils with four goals.

Boys Cross Country Runner: Jameson Maynes, Moeller – He finished fourth in the Lebanon Invitational with a time of 16:46. It was Moeller’s first race of the year since the Moeller Primetime was wet the week before.

Girls Cross Country Runner: Allison Kopser, Ryle – She won the Ryle Invitational over 120 runners, running 19:01 to win by 45 seconds.

Field hockey: Evelyn Krebs, Acad̩mie des Ursulines РThe senior led her team to a 6-0 victory over Talawanda with a hat-trick.

High School Ohio Soccer Player: Nick Rabin, Lakota East –He scored two touchdowns – a 39-yard reception in the second quarter and a 47-yard rush in the third quarter – to help Lakota East secure a 49-7 victory over Middletown on September 3.

Small-school Ohio soccer player: Kellen Lynch, Batavia – The senior quarterback / running back had 29 for 59 passes for 337 yards and 3 touchdowns, adding 12 yards on 6 rushing attempts.

Northern Kentucky / Indiana Soccer Player: Tyson Beach, Walton-Verona –He rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-20 win over Grant County.

Boys Golfer: Alex Rollman, Turpin – The freshman was a Moeller Crusader Classic medalist with a 73 on September 4 and led the team in a victory over Milford with a 34 on September 1.

Golfer: Isabella Beauregard, Ryle – She scored a score of 44, the team’s lowest, in the victory over South Dearborn on September 3, 195-225.

Ohio Boys Soccer Player: Sam Hughes, Anderson – The junior, who is second in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference in points (11) and goals (4), had 2 goals and 2 assists in three games last week.

Northern Kentucky / Indiana Boys Soccer Player: Ethan Sands, Conner – He scored two goals in the 4-0 win over Boone County on September 2.

Ohio Soccer Player: Lexi O’Shea, Seton – The rookie scored two goals in the 4-0 win over Ursuline on August 30.

Northern Kentucky / Indiana Women’s Football Player: Payton Kenny, Walton-Verona – She led the Bearcats to the 8th Regional All “A” Championship with three shutouts and 17 saves and was named MVP of the tournament.

Female tennis player, singles: Elle Frischer, Sycamore – She beat her opponent Middletown in the first single in a 5-0 team victory on September 3, and she also beat her opponent Hamilton in a 4-0 team victory. In addition, she beat her opponent from Mariemont on August 30.

Female tennis player, doubles team: Mya Reardon and Kiera Millerchip, Sycamore – The girls beat their first doubles opponents from Middletown on September 3 in a 5-0 team victory. They are 3-1 on the season.

Ohio Volleyball Player: Sophia Hudepohl, Sainte-Ursule – The eldest, who leads the Catholic Girls’ League with 177 assists, had 20 digs, 1 block, 3 aces on service, 47 assists and 4 assists in the 3-2 win over Mount Notre Dame on 2 September.

Northern Kentucky / Indiana Volleyball Player: Katie Rolf, Beechwood – She had 15 kills and 20 digs in a win over Bishop Brossart.
