A Chevrolet Corvette flew over a median and crashed into a swimming pool behind a house in Chino, Calif., Early on Wednesday morning.
The accident left two dead and one seriously injured, KNBC-TV reported.
At around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, the vehicle was rolling down the city’s Shaefer and East End avenues when it struck the center median, flew over a fence, overturned and then fell into the pool, according to a KCBS report. TV.
Police said the 21-year-old woman on board died at the scene. The other two, a 27-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were hospitalized, after which the man succumbed to his injuries, according to KCBS-TV. Authorities have yet to release their names.
âI didn’t hear like a howl or anything like that like they were trying to stop and then I got up and a little while later I saw flashing lights,â said Deborah Laugherty, who heard the accident, on KNBC-TV. (RELATED: 15-year-old dies jumping out of car arguing with mother)
âI heard a screeching cry or whatever, but then I heard a bang,â owner Art Guerrero told KCBS-TV. âIt was right here, and I was talking. And I hear moans and moans here.
âI walked out of my kitchen door and I see a girl lying on my patio,â Guerrero said, according to KNBC-TV.
Neighbors calling for more safety measures complain that one of the problems in their neighborhood is street racing along the sharp bend where the accident happened, the store reported.
âThis corner here is very busy and people, unfortunately, do not respect the speed limit. They’re going through that corner maybe 50, 60 miles per hour, âAdrianna Stoddard told KCBS-TV.
While investigators are uncertain whether drug addiction contributed to the crash or whether the passengers were wearing seat belts, they say speed was the main factor leading to the crash.
