Fitter and faster swim camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s college recruiting channel and all engagement news. For many, swimming in college is a long-held dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who have supported them on their journey.
Ainsley toews, a swimmer and cross-country athlete at Tift County High School in southern Georgia, verbally pledged to George Mason University for swimming.
“I am delighted to announce my verbal commitment to furthering my college and swimming career at George Mason University! This team has some amazing things in store and I am honored to be a part of it. Many thanks to my friends, family, coaches and the Lord for helping guide me to this point. I can’t wait to call Fairfax, Virginia home for the next four years! Go Patriots!
Toews swam at the 2021 Georgia High School GHSA 7A State Championships in Class 7A, the class with the largest schools. In this competition, she placed 21st in the 100m breaststroke. She also placed in the top 16 in her team’s 200 and 400 freestyle relays. She also swims for the Tiftarea Tidal Wave club team. In December, she competed at the Senior State Short Course Championships, where she placed 22nd in the 200 breaststroke.
Here are his best short course yard times:
- 50 free: 25.14
- 100 free: 54.61
- 100 chest: 1: 06.99
- 200 chest: 2: 25.11
George Mason University is a member of the Atlantic 10 conference. In the 2021 A10 Women’s Championship, GMU finished 6th out of ten teams.
Had Toews entered the 2021-22 season with her best times, she would have been the third-fastest GMU swimmer in the 200 breaststroke and the fourth in the 100 breaststroke. The swimmers who ranked ahead of her were Jacques Clabeau, a senior and the second-fastest performer in the 100 breast in the program’s history, and freshmen Daphne Bernal in the 200 and Ali tyler and Emma De Jong in the 100. So Toews will have a strong training squad when he arrives in the fall.
Toews joins GMU 2022 recruits Angelina Zeidan, a USA Futures qualifier in free sprint, return and flight; Ally Leary, a sprint freestyler; and Brooke nelson, a USA Futures qualifier in the 100 and 200 breaststroke as a rookie. Nelson is currently faster than Toews, but Toews is only seconds behind Nelson’s time in the 100 breaststroke.
