Gentlemen ready for the 2022 SCAC Championships


Blanco, TX- The Centennial men’s and women’s golf teams are set for the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Monday and Tuesday at Vaaler Creek Golf Club.

The men will play 36 holes on Monday while the women will play 18 and each will play 18 on Tuesday as the men will play 54 holes in total while the women will play 36. Centenary is joined by Dallas, Schreiner, Southwestern, St. Thomas, Texas Lutheran and Trinity.

The men and women will play a normal 72 setup with the men’s yardage of 6,864 and the women’s yardage of 5,855. The tournament starts at 8:00 a.m. with the gentlemen between 9:04 and 9:44 a.m.

Junior Richard Polan (Brno, Czech Republic) heads the men’s roster after earning the first individual win of his career on April 4 at Centenary’s final tournament, the 2022 Rhodes Spring Classic in Millington, Tennessee . Sophomore Andrew Bennett (Bossier City, La.), second Ricky Blair (Bossier City, La.), senior Harrison John (Lafayette, La.), and junior Devan Martin (Watson, La.). Freshman Tyler Jones (Stonewall, La.) will play as an individual.

Polan shot a 2-under par 214 to help the Gents finish fourth in the Rhodes Spring Classic and was the only golfer to finish under par for the tournament. Polan finished five strokes ahead of runner-up Trey Schneider of Dallas and now boasts five career top-five finishes and eight top-10 finishes. He shot a 1-of-73 in the first round, a 4-under 68 (one shy of the career-low round) in the second round and a 1-of-73 in the final round on Monday. Polan has now at least finished in the top 20 in nine of his last 10 tournaments. He was named SCAC’s Male Golfer of the Week after winning on April 4.

Bennett had the best result of his career shooting a par 222 from 6 of 222 to finish fourth as he earned the second top 10 finish of his young career after finishing tied for ninth at the 2022 Pinecrest Invitational last month. He now has three top-20 finishes this season. Blair tied for 16and place at 13 on the par 229 to earn his fourth career top 20.

The Gents finished sixth at the SCAC Championships last season, with Polan earning Centenary’s best individual tournament finish as he finished tied for seventh after shooting a par 224 from 8 to claim second-team All honors. -SCAC.
