Will Maher will remain with Hull KR for the 2022 Super League season after signing a one-year contract extension.
Arriving from Castleford Tigers in late 2019, the imposing accessory has become a reliable performer for Tony Smith.
Maher played 11 times in his debut campaign and started this year, making 15 successive appearances after returning from injury at former club Castleford in May.
A hamstring problem suffered in the final round of the regular season means he’s uncertain for Friday’s playoff date with the Warrington Wolves, but he’s done enough to convince Smith he’s worth at least one other year.
“I can’t wait to work with Will next year,” said the Rovers head coach.
“I think he’s really improved since he first joined us.
“Nonetheless, I think his best years are yet to come. He knows he has things to work on, but he’s a great and smart young man with the way he runs his rugby league – both in preparation and on the pitch.
“It’s a pleasure to work with him and he will face the competition in the middle in 2022, but I think it will bring out the best in him.”
Maher’s new deal means the Rovers have resolved the future of the 14 out-of-contract players before the end of the season.
