A WOMAN who erected a fence for privacy has told how her neighbor was furious because it blocked her view of his garden.
The anonymous woman took Reddit where she expressed her frustration under a message titled: “AITA for putting up a fence that blocks my neighbor’s view?”
She explained, “My neighbor has a VERY small back yard (but a really big front yard). »
Their back patio and fire pit are just yards from our property line. I’ve always wanted more privacy in general for my garden because it’s totally open all around.”
We have put up a fence along the side of the yard that abuts the neighbour’s small back yard and will be planting privacy trees along other parts of our yard. »
She went on to say that the fence will help a lot – mainly privacy and keep her young children from running in front of the house.
She added that her main concern is that the fence is 6ft and blocks her neighbor’s view of her backyard, making them feel “enclosed”.
The woman continued, “While the fence was being built, our neighbor heard about it (they’re out of town) and called the city’s zoning inspector – claiming the fence was too close to his property (we had to send him a picture by a house sitter).”

According to the zoning inspector, our neighbor was more than unhappy.
The inspector came out and found that our fence was 5 feet from the property line – the minimum is 3 feet, so we have a full two feet clear.”
She continued: “As the inspector was measuring, he discovered that our neighbor had built an outdoor fire pit a few years ago which is partially on my property in violation of the zoning ordinance.”
I really don’t care and I won’t tell the owners…until their fires burn down our fence.”
The woman noted that she texted her neighbor to let her know before the fence was built, but said she was out of town and did not respond to her messages.
Now the neighbor has taken to the social forum page to ask if she was wrong in making the decision to put up the fence.
“NTA. Your property, your choice. They don’t need a view of your garden. This is ridiculous,” one wrote.
A second agreed: “Nta. Block their view of your property. It feels like a pain living next door.”
A third noted: “NTA. And if the neighbor raises a stink when he returns tell him you are in the clear but if he persists in his complaints you will have him remove his hearth from YOUR property.”
Meanwhile, another added: ‘Your property, what you do is up to you.
I don’t care if a fence blocked my neighbors’ view of my yard, I hope they have better things to look at.”
