BOSTON— The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) invites members of the media to attend the Boston Marathon Media Day on Friday October 8 in Boston. Please see event-specific information below, as well as details on COVID-19 credential collection and security procedures for all members of the media. All listed events, with the exception of the finish line installation, require media accreditation and wristband.
Additionally, the BAA announces that professional athletes Nicholas Kosimbei (Kenya) and Angela Tanui (Kenya) have been added to the John Hancock Professional Athlete Team. The following previously announced professional athletes withdrew from the 125th Boston Marathon: Yuki Kawauchi (Japan), Paul Lonyangata (Kenya), Yebrgual Melese (Ethiopia), Abrar Osman (Eritrea), Tyler Pennel (US), Besu Sado (Ethiopia), Bedatu Hirpa (Ethiopia), Tish Jones (Great Britain) and professional wheelchair athletes Callum Hall (Great Britain), Tristan Smyth (Great Britain) and David Weir (Great Britain).

FRIDAY 8 OCTOBER – BOSTON MARATHON MEDIA DAY
Installation of the finish line of the 125th Boston Marathon | 9:00 am | Boylston Street
The Boston Marathon finish line sticker will be installed on Boylston Street prior to race weekend. Media are invited to film the installation process.
Boston Marathon Expo opens | 10:30 am | Hynes Convention Center
The Boston Marathon Expo will be open to attendees and members of the public from Friday October 8 through Sunday October 10. An opening ceremony on October 8 will mark the opening of this year’s Expo, where all participants will collect their bibs. Frontline workers and community members who have received invitation registrations for this year’s race in recognition of their commitment to the community will first receive their bibs at this special ceremony. These athletes were presented by the BAA and 2018 champion Des Linden at the Patriots’ Day Mile in April. Media planning to attend please RSVP to [email protected]. An identity card is required to access this ceremony. Please use the Boylston Street entrance to the Hynes Convention Center.
Professional athlete John Hancock press conference | 2:00 p.m. | Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel
Members of the John Hancock professional athletic team, including Olympic and Paralympic medalists, running champions and Abbott World Marathon Majors race winners, will be available for group and one-on-one talks. Selected athletes will also be available virtually for media not present on request via this form.
Boston Marathon Training Clinic Presented By Amazon | 5:00 p.m. | Boston Marathon Fan Fest stage, Copley Square
Professional athlete team members John Hancock, Molly Huddle, Scott Smith and Manuela Schär will share tips and advice with attendees at the latest Boston Marathon Training Clinic presented by Amazon.
Boston Marathon Opening Celebration | 6:00 p.m. | Boston Marathon Fan Fest stage, Copley Square
BAA officials will kick off the race weekend with a special celebratory event honoring the legends and milestones of the Boston Marathon. Recognized people include Ellison Brown, Sara Mae Berman, Dick Hoyt, Gloria Ratti and representatives of organizations who will collectively receive $ 125,000 from the BAA in honor of the 125th Boston Marathon. The Boston Marathon Expo will be open to attendees and members of the public from Friday October 8 through Sunday October 10. Participants will collect their bibs and explore a sponsor pavilion, pose for photo ops and purchase the largest collection of adidas Boston Marathon Merchandise in Boston.
Boston Marathon Fan Fest Presented By Amazon | Copley Square
The Boston Marathon Fan Fest presented by Amazon at Copley Square Park will be the perfect place to soak up the atmosphere of the race week. The Fan Fest will host live music, entertainment, photo ops, meetups and greetings, archives, the latest Boston Marathon training clinic, and more!
125th Boston Marathon COVID-19 Safety Policy and Credential Collection Information
All members of the media should adhere to the BAA’s COVID-19 mitigation efforts and policies, including, but not limited to, the wearing of masks in all areas of the media; provide proof of vaccine verification; and / or providing proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of Monday, October 11.
Members of the media should receive a BAA bracelet from the vaccine verification or COVID-19 test tent before retrieving media credentials. This bracelet must be worn during the entire race week.
For those members of the media who have performed a full set of WHO-certified COVID-19 immunizations:
From October 7-10, all vaccinated members of the media should visit the BAA Vaccine Verification Tent in Copley Square (corner of Boylston and Dartmouth streets). You will be required to show proof of a complete and WHO-certified vaccination (photocopies, digital copies or physical vaccination cards or documents are acceptable forms of proof). The vaccine verification tent is on a first come, first served basis. Please note that wait times vary throughout the weekend. Vaccine check-in times are: Thursday, October 7 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (media and race staff only, not participants); Friday October 8 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday October 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday October 10 from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For members of the media who have not completed a full WHO-certified COVID-19 vaccination series and will be tested for COVID-19 in Boston:
Please click on the link below to register for your COVID-19 test in Copley Square (corner of Boylston and Dartmouth streets) from October 8-10. You will need to wait approximately 30 minutes for confirmation of your test results. An existing or new MyQuest account is required to book your appointment. You will be able to create an account during the registration process. Please write down your username and password, and when prompted to select your testing location, select Boston, MA. While you are not tied to your selected COVID-19 testing appointment, we encourage you to arrive on time to minimize wait times. For media who are in Copley Square on Thursday, October 7, COVID-19 testing will be open on a first-come, first-served basis from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with no appointment required. (The Thursday option is only available to media and race staff, not participants.)
Upon successful vaccine verification or negative COVID-19 test results, you will receive a BAA bracelet. Once you have your BAA bracelet, you can retrieve your media credentials in the State Suite at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. Media credentials will be available for retrieval from Thursday, October 7 through Sunday, October 10 in the State Suite Media Center. The times for retrieving identifiers are as follows:
Thursday October 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Friday October 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday October 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
