NPC Athlete of the Week Vote (Oct 25-30)



Vote early and often for the Pensacola News Journal Athlete of the Week!

Polling stations are open until 11 a.m. Thursday on Each Weekly Winner will receive a unique Athlete of the Week jersey provided by BSN SPORTS. The winners will be contacted within the next two weeks.

Congratulations to the latest NPC Athlete of the Week winners for the 2021-22 school year: Jaydah Phelan, Kaylee Loper, Shelby Smith and Jennifer Mims of the West Florida Women’s Swim and Diving Team.

The sophomore Jaguars quartet garnered 61.55% of the total vote in the NPC’s online poll held after the play period of October 18-23.

NPC Athlete of the Week Vote (Oct 25-30)

Cross-country skiing for boys: Luis Gutierrez, West Florida – The Jaguars junior was the first to cross the finish line when District 1-2A met at the Longleaf Course in Pensacola. He won the district title with a time of 17 minutes, 15.2 seconds.

Golf boys: David Chávez, Catholic from Pensacola – The junior Crusaders were the lowest medalist in the DeFuniak Springs Country Club District 1-1A men’s tournament. Chavez clocked a two-under-70, helping Catholique to finish first overall.

Boys Swimming and Diving: Aiden Morgan, Gulf Breeze – The senior Dolphins won two events at the District 1-3A Championships. Morgan was first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1: 58.72. He also won the 100 breaststroke after clocking 1: 01.1.

Football defense: RJ Randolph, West Florida – The senior linebacker finished with a sack, fumble and several tackles for loss in the Jaguars’ 30-7 win over Pensacola Catholic.

Football offense: Waymond Jordan Jr., Escambia – In 26 carries, the Gators senior running back racked up 268 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the team’s 21-14 win at Gulf Breeze.

Special football teams: Jackson Clarke, West Florida – Highlighted by a 40-yard field goal just before halftime, the runner-up scored three goals in the Jaguars’ 30-7 win over Pensacola Catholic.

Cross-country ski girls: Sofia Peterlevitz, Pensacola Christian – The eighth-grader helped the Warriors’ women’s team sweep the top five individual spots in the District 1-1A meet at Twin Oaks Park in Niceville. Peterlevitz was fourth after a time of 21: 05.9.

Golf girls: Gabrielle Hultstrand, Pensacola – The Tigers rookie placed second at the Panama City Country Club District 1-2A women’s tournament. Hultstrand shot 78, five headshot.

Girls Swimming and Diving: Emma Wortman and Landry Hadder, Pace – The senior Patriots duo have each won a pair of events at the District 1-3A Championships. Wortman won the 100 breaststroke (1: 06.5) and the 100 butterfly (58.98) while Hadder won the 100 backstroke (58.39) and the 200 IM (2: 09.99).

Volleyball: Lauren Kellen, Gulf Breeze – The senior center blocker had 17 kills, five total blocks, five digs and two aces in the Dolphins’ 3-0 win over Fletcher in the Region 1-6A quarterfinal.
