Oliver Pickering ’22 Named Centennial Conference Researcher-Athlete of the Year


Oliver Pickering of Millburn New Jersey, named Centennial Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year. He is a graduate of Millburn High School, class of 2018, son of Charles Pickering and Sandi Chung. The Centennial Conference has released its Winter 2022 Academic Honors including Varsity Athletes of the Year, Centennial Academic Team, and Academic Honor Roll. A total of 644 student-athletes were honored in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, men’s and women’s swimming and wrestling.

Pickering was one of seven scholar-athletes of the year selected from winter sports and the first male swimmer from Gettysburg to earn the honor. A total of 644 student-athletes were honored on the Winter Academic Honor Roll. To be nominated for the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in their class and achieve a grade point average of 3.40 or higher.

Pickering was an all-conference selection with honorable mention for the second time in his career after finishing second in the 200 butterfly. He posted a time of 1:52.53 in the final to win the silver medal and leaves Gettysburg as the program record holder in the event at 1:51.86. At the conference held at Franklin Marshall, he also set a school record in the 400IM posting a time of 4:05.05

The Centennial Conference encourages athletic competition among national liberal arts colleges and universities that share similar academic aspirations and a commitment to the importance of the total educational experience for students engaged in athletics.
