Shreyas Iyer set to become India’s top individual scorer in test debut against New Zealand


Kanpur: Shreyas Iyer grabbed the headlines as the Delhi Capitals hitter made his long-awaited debut in the red ball format on Wednesday in the 1st Test against New Zealand in Kanpur. He became the 303rd Indian player to play the longest format in the game and it was more special for him as a legend of India, Sunil Gavaskar handed him the Test cap just before the match. Currently at bat at 75 with Ravindra Jadeja who is 50, the duo helped India to finish at 258/4 on day one of the 1st test. Shubman Gill scored 52 at the start to give India a stable start. It was up to Iyer and Jadeja who are now well positioned for a solid finish for the men in blue in the opening heats. Iyer is currently the 8th individual top scorer for India on his debut in the game’s longest format. Shikhar Dhawan is India’s leading points scorer on his test debut with 187 points, which he scored against Australia. Rohit Sharma is ranked second with 177 points, followed by Prithvi Shaw who scored 134 points against the West Indies.
