The Iowa Central swim team opened the 2021-22 season with an impressive performance here on Saturday against Iowa Lakes.
The Tritons have won all but three races in the duel with the Lakers.
Nine races broke the Top 10 in school history with eight for the women and one for the men.
Andrea Gallardo and Maria Gonçalves have each recorded three of those eight times.
Gallardo is third in the 1000 freestyle and ninth in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Goncalves is second in the 100 backstroke, fifth in the 50 backstroke and ninth in the 200 IM.
Leticia Dias is eighth in the 100 breaststroke and 10th in the 200 freestyle, while the men’s 200 IM relay from Gavin Hall, Kyle McKenzie, Pedro Aragon and Sam Brennan moved up to ninth.
“I am very proud of the whole team,” Iowa Central head coach Joe Plane said. “This performance bodes well for the rest of our season.
“We swam really well for the first meet of the season and our big freshman class had their first varsity swim meet, with a really good performance. We also had many lifetime records, which is very impressive for the first meeting of the year.
Iowa Central returns to the pool on Saturday, October 16 when it hosts South Dakota State and Barton.
