Titans’ Finlay Knox earns another victory, bringing Toronto to the top of the ISL game


Canada’s Finlay Knox narrowly won the men’s 200-meter medley as the Toronto Titans swam to the top of their International Swimming League game in Naples, Italy on Thursday.

Knox of Okotoks, Alta., Beat Leonardo Santos of Iron by 0.18 seconds, hitting the wall in one minute 52.32 seconds.

His teammate Alberto Rozzeti finished third with a time of 1: 53.59.

The Titans barely managed to fend off the Cali Condors, posting 292 points versus 283 for the Condors on day one of competition, one day to go.

The action resumes Friday at 2 p.m. ET on CBCSports.ca, where Toronto will look for its second ISL tag team victory.

Canadian Olympic medalist Kayla Sanchez led the Titans to a victory in the 4x100m freestyle relay, scoring 30 points in a winning effort.

Sanchez was also fourth in the women’s 200m individual medley, while fellow Canadian Tessa Cieplucha was sixth.

Quadruple Olympic medalist Kylie Masse was held winless that day, taking second place in the women’s 50 backstroke and third place in the women’s 200 backstroke.

Mission, BC, native Brent Hayden and compatriot Yuri Kisil collected 38 points for the Titans, paving the way for a victory in the 4x100m freestyle.

Cole Pratt of Calgary was second in the men’s 200m backstroke with a time of 1: 51.59, registering seven points for Toronto.

Winnipeg native Kelsey Wog scored five points for the Titans, finishing fourth in the women’s 200 breaststroke, while teammate Cieplucha was sixth.
