TV20 Meldon Scholar Athlete of the Week: Brice Criggal (Branford)

BRANFORD, Fla. (WCJB) — Playing football for a small school usually means being on both sides of the ball, which is exactly what Brice Criggal loves.

“Wherever the team needs me, I’m ready to go,” Branford senior Brice Criggall said. “I play wherever the team needs me. I just try to be a team player. I think I try to help the team as much as possible in several positions.

As a starter for two years, the Branford eldest has played all over the field; from safety and linebacker to catcher and punter.

“He’s a jack-of-all-trades guy.” said Branford head coach Tim Clard. “He’s ready to do whatever we ask him to do, but obviously we’re comfortable giving him that workload because he’s such a smart kid and we know he can handle it.”

Criggall doesn’t shy away from being the Swiss army knife of the team due to his responsibility to his teammates.

“I love the hard times with my brothers because I’ve been playing football with them since I don’t even know how long, since we were little,” Criggal said. “Everything we go through together is what I love the most.”

“Criggy is genuine,” Clark said. “I believe he’s honest and hardworking and I think that goes a long way in getting guys interested in you as a leader.”

Criggall isn’t just limited to grilling, though. He is also on the Buccaneers weightlifting and track and field teams.

“Playing other sports has really transferred over to my main sport, which is football, so it made me more athletic.”

In class, Criggal has a 3.84 gpa, is a member of the National Honor Society and plans to become a cardiovascular surgeon.

“Since I was a young kid I’ve always been like dang I want to be a doctor because I just want to be able to help people and feel like when you help someone you can feel good about yourself “Criggal said. . “I consider myself a good person and it’s just my way of giving back to the world.”

Criggall will graduate from high school and associate degree.
