Union Township Approves Fencing Payment at Water Tower, Considers Sports Complex Project – The Morning Sun

Union Township Board of Directors approves several items at their August meeting.

The meeting took place at 7 p.m. on August 24 at Union Township Hall and was also available live on YouTube. The township also allowed attendees to join the meeting, via Zoom, for public comment sessions.

First, the council approved a bid from Mt. Pleasant Sash and Door in the amount of $13,194.44 to install a fence and sliding door around the perimeter of the water tower in Lincoln Road.

“The installation of this fence was noted in the 2020 EGLE Township Community Water Supply Sanitary Survey as an item to be completed,” said a request for action form from Director of Utilities Kim. Smith.

Work on this project is expected to begin in the fall of 2022.

Council also approved the second reading and passage of a zoning map amendment related to the development of the proposed Mid Michigan College (MMC) Athletic Sports Complex.

The sports complex is planned for MMC’s softball and baseball programs and would likely be built around S. Summerton Road.

In terms of zoning issues with this project, 2.59 acres (3 plots) would need to be rezoned from rural residential district to business headquarters.

A first reading of this decision was approved at the August 10 Council meeting.

With the approval of this article, construction could begin in the fall of 2022 and possibly end in the summer of 2023.
