Garrett Cameron of Pellston was voted Athlete of the Week for Week 5. Congratulations, Garrett!

The main rusher of the now 6-0 Pellston football team, Cameron himself had a week against Atlanta in Week 4, when he scored four touchdowns, all over 50 yards.

He had 50, 51, and 55-yard touchdowns and then also added a 59-yard touchdown reception.

Cameron had another strong performance against Gaylord St. Mary last week, which has kept the Hornets undefeated this season.

Cameron’s victory in the vote came by one of the widest voting margins to date, as he garnered 7,435 first-place votes from fans in the region.

Ethan Antaya of East Jordan was second with 3,155 votes and Nic Santina of Boyne City had 635 votes. A total of 11,590 votes were cast during the fifth week.

An athlete can win up to three times during the season before being removed from the list.

Now it’s time to focus on the sixth week. Below are the candidates for the Athlete of the Week from Monday September 27 to Saturday October 2.

This survey will be open from Monday, October 4 to Wednesday, October 6 at 7 p.m.

  • Patrick Sterrett, Charlevoix football

Sterrett was all over for the Rayders in a 14-6 win over East Jordan on Friday night. He received nine receptions for 85 yards on offense, then added four tackles and two defensive interceptions, the final of which ended East Jordan’s late practice deep in Rayder’s territory.

  • Taylor Wilson, Harbor Springs Golf Course

Wilson has been consistent all season, but had some really good laps last week. She placed second overall on the Cheboygan Invite with an 86, then helped the Rams win a Lake Michigan Conference title with a round of 84, earning her All-LMC honors.

  • Jacob Bush, Boyne Town Football

Bush has been a tackle lately and had a third straight game with at least 12 tackles last week. The senior linebacker made 16 tackles, three for a loss, and recovered a fumble in a 48-16 win over Kalkaska.

  • Madison Smith, Mackinaw City Volleyball

Opponents’ game plans were again often ruined by Smith last week, as she landed 19 kills in a win over Boyne Falls, managed 13 kills and three blocks in a loss to Cardinal Mooney, then totaled 48 kills and seven aces. in a tournament on Mackinac Island this weekend.

  • Dylan Aldridge, Football Petoskey

Most of Petoskey’s offense has worked with Aldridge over the course of the season and last week was no different. The senior star secured an assist in a narrow loss to TC West, scored early in a win over Alpena, and then scored another big goal in a win over state-ranked Elk Rapids.
