Here’s everything you need to know about the Prince of Peckham …

Who is Kye Whyte?

Born in September 1999, the 22-year-old started riding BMX when he was only three years old.

Riding is family-friendly, with his father Nigel co-founder of the famous Peckham BMX Club.

It was from there that Whyte got his nickname “Prince of Peckham” and began his rise from the streets of South London to the Tokyo Olympics.

Together with their brother Tre, the couple joined the British cycling team in 2017.

But it was a tough start nationally for Kye, who suffered a brain hemorrhage from an accident and was in a medically induced coma for five days.

However, he came back strong and won a silver medal at the European Championship in 2018, before registering his first Supercross World Cup victory in Manchester a year later.

Whyte was part of Team GB’s Olympic squad at Toyko 2020 and walked away with a silver medal as the British took BMX events by storm.

He was edged out by Dutch star Niek Kimmann in an exciting contest, his exploits helping propel BMX into mainstream audiences as a captivated audience watched at home.

The 2022 Ice Dance program

On October 7, it was announced that Whyte will appear in ITV’s upcoming Dancing on Ice series.

The show can be an intimidating prospect for some, but “fearless” Kye is confident that his past experience on roller skates will give him a valuable head start.

He told CBBC Newsround: “I was roller skating when I was younger so we’ll see how it goes.
