Madison Edgewood’s women’s swim team sent 20 combined individual swimmers and relays, as well as a diver, to the WIAA Division 2 state competition after the Crusaders won a D2 section competition on Saturday. November 6 at DeForest High School.
Edgewood had a total of six section titles on Saturday. Natalie Caroll won the diving title with a score of 373.6 points, while the individual swimming champions included juniors Izzy Enz (200 yards freestyle, 1 minute, 53.47 seconds and 500 freestyle, 5:07, 12) and Sam Vega (individual medley, 2: 08.78).
Juniors Sophie Reed and Brynn Stacey teamed up with seniors Abby Reid and Enz in the 200 free relay to claim a section title with a time of 1: 37.77. Edgewood also won the 400 freestyle relay title.
The Crusaders won the tag team title with 410 points. Baraboo took top honors with a score of 267.
The people from Edgewood who will take part in the state competition – which takes place on Friday, November 12 at the Waukesha South Natatorium – will be Caroll (diving), rookie Sylvia Thompson (200 free and 500 free), Enz (200 free and 500 free)), junior Brynn Stacey (200 free and 500 free), freshman Izzy Bloom (200 IM and 100 butterfly), Vera (200 IM), senior Anna teDuits (200 IM and 100 back), Reid (50 free) and 100 free), Reed (50 free and 100 free) and Claire Sweeney senior (100 fly and 100 back).
The Crusaders also bring the 200 medley relay, the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay to the state competition.
Edgewood has won six consecutive tag team championships, winning Division 2 titles from 2015 to 2019 and also the alternate season title in 2020-2021.
